2017 Fall YA Scavenger Hunt–Christina June

Happy October readers, and welcome to this fall’s YA Scavenger Hunt! I love October and I love Halloween–it’s my favorite holiday–though I do very much miss seeing the beautiful fall colors that seem to lack here in Florida.

For those neophytes joining us the YA Scavenger Hunt blog hop of fun-ness is designed to give readers a chance to gain access to exclusive bonus material from their favorite authors…and a chance to find new favorite authors and win some great prizes! I’m on #TeamBlue this time and I’m thrilled! As per usual I have an extra giveaway going on that you can only enter here on this page. $20 in gift cards and is very special prize basket filled with so many things us book lovers live off of ;P The rafflecopter is below so don’t miss it.

There is more to this hunt than access to exclusive content. If you want any of the grand prizes  you need to find and add up all the number clues from each author for the team hunt. Get that total number and you can enter for our prizes–one lucky winner will receive ONE SIGNED BOOK from each author on the hunt team!

But you have to play fast. This contest will only be open for 5 days, OCTOBER 3-8! Each author on my #TeamBlue have listed a certain number; collect the numbers of all the authors and add them up. Once you’ve added up all the numbers, make sure you fill out the form here to officially qualify for the grand prize. Only entries that have the correct number will qualify.

Go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page to find out all about the hunt, the rules, the other teams, and all the prizes up for grabs!

For this hunt I am hosting CHRISTINA JUNE and her Cinderella reimagining: IT STARTED WITH GOODBYE

Sixteen-year-old Tatum Elsea is bracing for the worst summer of her life. After being falsely accused of a crime, she’s stuck under stepmother-imposed house arrest and her BFF’s gone ghost. Tatum fills her newfound free time with community service by day and working at her covert graphic design business at night (which includes trading emails with a cute cello-playing client).

When Tatum discovers she’s not the only one in the house keeping secrets, she finds she has the chance to make amends with her family and friends. Equipped with a new perspective, and assisted by her feisty step-abuela/fairy-godmother, Tatum is ready to start fresh and maybe even get her happy ending along the way.

A modern play on the Cinderella story arc, IT STARTED WITH GOODBYE shows us that sometimes going after what you want means breaking the rules.

Buy the book here

SPECIAL CONTENT: Inspirational boards for her books!

EVERYWHERE YOU WANT TO BE:  From author Christina June comes Everywhere You Want to Be, a modern tale inspired by the classic Red Riding Hood story.

Matilda Castillo has always followed the rules, but when she gets injured senior year, she’s sure her dreams of becoming a contemporary dancer have slipped away. So when Tilly gets a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend the summer with a New York dance troupe, nothing can stop her from saying yes–not her mother, not her fears of the big city, and not the commitment she made to Georgetown. Tilly’s mother allows her to go on two conditions: one, Tilly will regularly visit her abuela in New Jersey, and two, after the summer, she’ll give up dancing and go off to college.

Armed with her red vintage sunglasses and her pros and cons lists, Tilly strikes out, determined to turn a summer job into a career–and figure out how to break it to her mother later. Along the way she meets new friends … and new enemies. Tilly isn’t the only one desperate to dance, and fellow troupe member Sabrina Wolfrik intends to succeed at any cost. But despite dodging sabotage and blackmail attempts from Sabrina, Tilly can’t help but fall in love with the city, especially since Paolo, a handsome musician from her past, is also calling New York home for the summer.

As the weeks wind down and the competition with Sabrina heats up, Tilly’s future is on the line. She must decide whether to follow her mother’s dream of college or leap into the unknown to pursue her own dreams.

Christina June writes young adult contemporary fiction when she’s not writing college recommendation letters during her day job as a school counselor. Christina is a voracious reader, loves to travel, eats too many cupcakes, and hopes to one day be bicoastal – the east coast of the US and the east coast of Scotland. She lives in Virginia with her husband and daughter. Her debut novel, IT STARTED WITH GOODBYE, was released in May 2017, and a companion, EVERYWHERE YOU WANT TO BE, will be available in 2018.

Sounds like an interesting series! Take the time to check it out after you enter the extra giveaway I’m running! To be eligible for the grand prize on #TeamBlue you need to remember that I am a HUGE Ohio State Football fan and that the jersey number of my favorite players from the last few seasons is 97!

Make the jump to NINA ROSSING’s page to continue the hunt! And if you haven’t already, you’ll soon find my special content on this hunt which is super exciting for me because I’ve released the first chapter of my newest book CHASING THE ORION STARS which is on Swoon Reads!

Happy sleuthing 🙂

YA_READ_A_ROMANCE month!

Now for a bit more about me and my darling books!

Aliana Fagan spent her childhood traveling the world, dreaming of legendary heroes and mythical lands. But after the sudden death of her parents, she hides behind the safety of her camera and her art until a vivid recurring dream compels her to dig into her father’s research about Avalon and Camelot. When she is hurled into a magical realm by forces she thought were only the stuff of fairy tales, she finds herself thrown into an adventure she could never have imagined. Nearly everything she thought she knew about Arthurian legend was wrong.

The independent eighteen-year-old is shocked to find that the people of Avalon think that she is the Destined One, the only person who can summon King Arthur back to life from his hidden chamber. Most surprising of all is that it’s up to her to lead the Knights of the Round Table on an epic quest–an adventure that will transport them across the seven magic realms to reclaim all that has been lost so they can defeat the evil Mordrid for good. But first, she must bring the ancient warriors into her world and reunite them with their lost brothers. Chaperoning the legendary knights-with-a-chivalry-complex as they navigate the modern world is a constant challenge, and she certainly never thought she’d be caught between her intense feelings for the noble Sir Galahad and her growing friendship with the King.

To fulfill the prophecy, Aliana will have to discover the meaning of friendship, bravery, loyalty, true love, and forgiveness. But can she do it all in time to save the realms from Mordrid’s impending Armageddon?

The Legendary Saga is finally complete at 4 epic books and this site holds a LOT more goodies to go along with them! CLICK HERE if you’re interested to learn more as you enjoy this AWESOME month of YA romance!!!

A new kind of hunt coming August 25th

Hello!!! I love getting to take part in the different types of author promo’s out there so I decided to try my own using one of my more favorite forms of social media: INSTAGRAM!!

It’s a pretty easy concept. There will be several teams of authors who will have fun picture prompts like : KNIGHT or TIGER. Everyone on Instagram is welcome to take part, each entry will have to be tagged with the author team and the hunt hashtag #YAInstahunt to be counted as an entry. (ONLY entries posted on Instagram can count towards points)

Each entry is 1 point, with 8 points possible per team! If there are multiple people who make all 8 entries then the authors will choose a winner among the tied. When you finish with one team, hop to the next and the next if you so wish! Those who complete pics from each team will be entered to win the grand prize 😀

TEAM PRIZE winner will win the prize pack that each author team puts together. These packs could include books, swag, jewelry, gift cards or a lot of other possibilities 🙂

GRAND PRIZE winner will receive a copy of the featured books from each author taking part on all the team!

Now it’s time to meet some of the authors taking part of this first hunt 🙂

TEAM PINK: @LHNicoleauthor @colleen.houck

L.H. Nicole is a seasoned Pastry Chef at the happiest place on earth and a life long fairytale (Disney and Grimm) lover. She believes in love at first sight, is addicted to 80s & 90s cartoons and anything that can capture her ADD-way-too-overactive-imagination. Joan Lowery Nixon and L.J. Smith were the first authors she became addicted to and who inspired her to steal away whenever she could to read and write.

New York Times Bestselling Author Colleen Houck is a lifelong reader whose literary interests include action, adventure, science fiction, and romance. Formerly a student at the University of Arizona, she worked as a nationally certified American Sign Language interpreter for seventeen years before switching careers to become an author. Colleen lives in Salem, Oregon, with her husband and a huge assortment of plush tigers.

TEAM PURPLE: @mcnulty.amy @LydiaKang

Amy McNulty is a freelance writer and editor from
Wisconsin with an honors degree in English. She was first published in a national scholarly journal (The Concord Review) while in high school and currently writes professionally about everything from business marketing to anime. In her down time, you can find her crafting stories with dastardly villains and antiheroes set in fantastical medieval settings.

Lydia Kang is an author of young adult fiction,
a nerdgeek, a foodie, and takes far too many pictures of her dog. She lives in the midwest with her family where she works as a physician, and also writes adult fiction and nonfiction.

TEAM RED: @eerie_o @seemegwrite

You can call her Colleen. She’s a retired Air Force officer, chemical engineer, mommy, author, blogger, and the PR manager/associate agent (agent in training) at Inklings Literary Agency.
When she’s not chatting with her imaginary friends, she’s either stuck in a book or interviewing with PEOPLE Magazine, ABC’s 20/20, the local morning news show, or INSIDE EDITION, where she promotes writing for mental and emotional health. She also mentors pre-published authors through workshops and contests and runs Totem Head’s Annual Free Writing Contest for Kids, now in its eighth year. Though she holds a BS in both Chemical Engineering and German, she’s far happier writing near misses and awkward kisses. Some of her off-the-wall talents include speaking in 10-codes (which she learned working 911-dispatch for Alaska State Troopers), flying helicopters, and Irish dance. She lives in Alaska with her very patient husband and son.

Meg Kassel is an author of fantasy and speculative books for young adults. A graduate of Parson’s School of Design, she’s always been creating stories, whether with visuals or words. She worked as a graphic designer before realizing the thing she did for pleasure (writing) was something she should do for real. Meg is a New Jersey native who lives in a log house in the Maine woods with her husband and daughter. A fan of ’80s cartoons, Netflix series, and ancient mythology, Meg has always been fascinated and inspired by the fantastic, the creepy, and the futuristic. When she’s not writing, Meg is reading, hanging out with her family, hoarding peanut butter cups, or playing video games. She is a two-time finalist and the 2016 winner of the RWA Golden Heart© contest in YA.

TEAM GREEN: @lisavoisin @jessikafleckwriter

Lisa Voisin is an author of young adult fantasy fiction, a
technical writer, and a graduate of SFU’s The Writer’s Studio. Her debut young adult fantasy novel, The Watcher, received the Chanticleer Grand Prize for Paranormal fiction. In her spare time, Lisa leads a writing group for teens and teaches meditation in her hometown of North Vancouver, B.C.

Jessika Fleck is a writer, unapologetic coffee drinker, and knitter — she sincerely hopes to one
day discover a way to do all three at once. Until then, she continues collecting vintage typewriters and hourglasses, dreaming of an Ireland getaway, and convincing her husband they NEED more kittens. She’s never been known to pass up a good cup of coffee or a great pair of boots. Her work verges on fantastical and dark with a touch of realism. She is a regular contributor to the fantastic kidlit blog, The Kidliterati. Her YA fantasy, THE CASTAWAYS (Entangled Teen) is currently available. THE OFFERING (Swoon Reads/Macmillan) releases in the fall, 2018. Jessika is represented by Victoria Marini of IGLA.

TEAM YELLOW: @lucydbriand @lesterlingauthor

L.E. Sterling had an early obsession with sci-fi, fantasy and romance to which she remained faithful even through an M.A. in Creative Writing and a PhD in English Literature – where she completed a thesis on magical representation. She is the author of two previous novels, the cult hit Y/A novel The Originals (under pen name L.E. Vollick), dubbed “the Catcher in the Rye of a new generation” by one reviewer, and the urban fantasy Pluto’s Gate. Originally hailing from Parry Sound, Ontario, L.E. spent most of her summers roaming across Canada in a van with her father, a hippie musician, her brothers and an occasional stray mutt – inspiring her writing career. She currently lives in Toronto, Ontario.

Lucy D. Briand lives in Ottawa, Canada with her comic book fanatic husband and her nonchalant Siamese cat. By day she works full time as a public servant for the Government of Canada, but by night her creative mind takes over and conjures up young adult gearhead romance stories with supernatural twists. When not working, reading, writing, or watching way too much TV, Lucy likes to cosplay, attend Comic Cons, go on road trips to Walt Disney World, and play ridiculous amounts of tabletop board games. She’s a geek to the core but is also a huge NASCAR Cup fan.

TEAM ORANGE: @amberinblunderland @gloriacraw01

Gloria Craw grew up in the desert southwest and
attended the University of Utah where she got a degree in anthropology. Thee days she lives just outside of Seattle, Washington. She’s married, has four daughters and a very hairy dog.

Amber Mitchell graduated from the University of South Florida with a BA in Creative Writing. She likes crazy hair styles, reading, D&D, k-dramas, good puns and great food. When she isn’t putting words on paper, she is using cardstock to craft 3D artwork or exploring new places with her husband Brian. They live a small town in Florida with their four cats where she is still waiting for a madman in a blue box to show up on her doorstep. Garden of Thorns is her debut novel from Entangled Teen.

So here are your teams and a little about the authors taking part!!! My next post will have full graphics and Prizes being offered 🙂

Come back and see us and until then enjoy the beautiful days!

Time For More Fun

Have any of you ever tried something new that seemed a little risky? I feel like that’s been my life the last 8 months with work, writing, adopting a new fur-baby and a few other areas.

I fully admit to being a little scattered in my loves, but when I love, I go all in, especially with my pastries and my writing worlds!

Then there’s the addition of my little Wilykit to my family of me and Sir Tigra 🙂 It’s been an interesting challenge to get them to get along. We’ve still got a ways to go but they are not trying to go for each other’s throats at least =^_^=

I can’t deny I seem to have a love for cats with stripes and adorably feisty personalities.

Then there’s the chances I am taking in the book world, the biggest of which is posting the first book of my newest series, Venators of Orion, on Swoon Reads.

For those who don’t know, Swoon reads is a part of Macmillan publishing and is an open format where authors go to post their polished manuscripts for the Swoon Reads community to read and leave feed back and ratings on. Then a few times a year the Swoon reads staff go through the posted books and select what books they wan to publish. (I have personally found a half dozen book from there I LOVE!) Anyone can sign up to be apart of the community, both as authors and readers!

CHASING THE ORION STARS is now up for readers to find and enjoy and I’d love to see what my readers think of this new chapter of YA Urban Fantasy fun 🙂

Chasing The Orion Stars on Swoon Reads

Aurora Milos has fallen in love with a sixteenth century boy in her dreams of all places. When her mom moves them to Rome, Italy she’ll not only discover Alexander “Lex” Borgia is real, but that he’s found a way to defy time and to be with her in the twenty-first century—just as he vowed he would.

The only problem is that keeping that vow will drive Aurora and Lex into the center of an ancient war between the Venators of Orion, the immortal army that protect our world, the mysterious and unseen phantom beasts that roam the earth, and those who use those monsters to get their revenge.

Aurora’s new life may have everything she’s ever wanted, but it’s not what she thought it would be; and if she and Lex fail to stop the evil Pleiades sisters and their followers the modern world will never be the same.

I hope some of you will go over and check it out before I make a decision on what to do with my newest literary baby.

There is one last thing that I’ve been working on, when I have had the time, and that’s pulling together a fun Instagram scavenger hunt that will pair up a bunch of amazing YA authors for some pic prompting fun with some really great prizes thrown in!! More information and the event dates will come as I get author confirmation, so until then stay tuned for the follow up!!!!!
